-This Energy Policy Act was signed by President Bush on August 8th, 2005 and provides businesses and consumers federal tax breaks for energy efficient products. This has been a very hot topic in the lighting industry, since businesses can earn between $0.30 and $0.60 a sq. ft. in deduction! This has provided businesses with a significant tax deduction to look at energy efficient lighting as well as other technologies. This deduction can be taken in addition to utility or Focus on Energy incentives already available for your area. A very good source of information on the lighting portion of this legislation can be found at www.lightingtaxdeduction.org
-As part of the legislation, in order for projects to qualify, they must meet IESNA guidelines for light levels and be certified by a qualified individual. Qualified individuals include PEs, licensed contractors, or others holding a state license in the jurisdiction the work is being done. US Lamp can provide this certification since our President holds an LC and is licensed in Wisconsin as a Designer of Engineering Systems. For more on selecting qualified individuals, the National Lighting Bureau has put together this article. For questions or more information on these topics, please contact US Lamp.
